How to select courses What English level will I be
enrolled in?
Applicants can
indicate their English level according to their IELTS or TOEFL score from
their home country by ticking � the appropriate box� in the enrolment form.
If your IELTS band is 3 then you need to enrol in the Elementary English
class at the Academy. Upon arrival, the students are given ESOL tests such as
the Oxford Placement Test (OPT) to identify their English language and academic
level: Beginners, Elementary,
Pre-Intermediate or Intermediate. What courses are offered by the Academy? The Academy offers General English courses, which are designed to give a full coverage from Elementary to Upper Intermediate levels. The courses aim to increase students'� English language to a level sufficient to satisfy the English requirements for entrance to a NZ high school or foundation course for university (IELTS band 5.5-6.0). The course is structured so that students can complete the course modules in the areas of Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing and Grammar within the designated timeframe. Progress and Attendance Reports are given at suitable intervals and students' learning and understanding is tested on a weekly basis. | |||
